Holistic Fitness & Lifestyle

“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”

- Hippocrates. Father of Medicine.

Being healthy goes a little further than just exercise and diet.

The new approach to health and general well-being is a holistic approach

 HOLISTIC FITNESS

The new approach to health and physical well-being must be integrative.

We know of the great benefits that a good nutritional plan can provide to our body, but other important factors require our full attention.

Some of us neglect the body from physical activity and exercise, and not enough attention is given to our emotional and mental health.  The training and integration of these aspects in a fitness program can offer wonders to your mental state, and eventually to your physical state.

When we understand wellness in this context; total integration of mind-body- environment, staying healthy, and living a balanced life takes on a whole new meaning. It simply becomes a way of life.

The Eight Dimensions of Wellness

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines wellness as:
“a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Wellness is a combination of factors that influence our quality of life.

Paying attention to these dimensions will help you get started, or refine your wellness plan.

  1. Physical: Recognize the need for physical activity, healthy foods, and sleep.
  2. Emotional: Learn to cope with stress, and keep a positive attitude.
  3. Intellectual: Expand knowledge and skills through intellectually stimulating activities.
  4. Social: Develop a sense of connection, and belonging.
  5. Spiritual:  Develop a sense of purpose and meaning in life. Spend time alone in personal reflection. Be in the 'here and now.'.
  6. Environmental: Construct environments that support well-being.
  7. Occupational: Volunteer in the community. Develop personal satisfaction from one’s work.
  8. Financial: Learn about budgeting.
